Well not really but the anticipation is somewhat similar. Tomorrow we will be property owners well at least title owners at least with the right to work on our little piece of kiwiana. But before we can lay claim we first had to leave the property for a night as the current owner is trying to sell the block next door and the presence of three house trucks parked adjacent might have lessened the appeal for the prospective buyers. I don’t mind too much as it was nice to get away for a bit and so we are now parked in Reefton. Phillip seems happy to explore as we wait for life to unfold in new ways and the kids go wild in the truck so a short stroll into the township and a quick tune on the piano. going to Reefton or Murchison may be a regular thing now if we want to escape the boredom that can be associated with owning land if you have dreams of something you want to do with it but no money to do any of it. So due to that fact i see no other choice but to sell our house truck to afford the cost of building a dwelling and other developments. I opened a Maruia buy sell group on Facebook and listed the truck on it hoping someone local might be interested before we place it on trade me and have to pay their listing fees. So as like many other times just before some event unfolds, we wait. The rain has been falling all night and Suzannah woke us at 4 am so she could sleep in our bed thanks to a nightmare. The school situation for the kids has been a little bit of a fizzer the first week and they had friday off because we had to go and pick up some trees for serena in oxford. its a 5 hour return trip so we couldn’t put the kids on the bus so they had the day off. The town of Maruia has history and lots of it stored in the memories of those who have lived there for over 50 years so it’s not surprising that human beings like to formulate a sense of ownership of things like that. An opinion once formed by long standing residence about new comers can sometimes be difficult to budge, be it a good or a negative one. Sometimes it’s better not to desire to be in the group or associated with those of history and just forge a way ahead on your own and perhaps add a different flavor to whats already there. But their is so much local knowledge that could be gained from being part of the community that might take years to learn by trial and error so we will probably seek to get more involved in the community and meeting as many people as we can in it. Knowing what we can plant and when is a case in point. We have been thinking about starting a nursery or small garden center, with no money of coarse so just a dream at this point. Oh well it’s now 5am and i might try for a little more sleep or perhaps little more dreaming.
